KUTSO CHAIRMAN ESİN GÜRAL ARGAT ATTENDS COP31 LAUNCH AT UN HEADQUARTERS

The 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly is bringing together world leaders in New York, United States. Esin Güral Argat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kütahya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KUTSO), was among the business community representatives accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his delegation during their engagements in the United States as part of the UN General Assembly week.

Güral Argat attended the meeting at the United Nations Headquarters where COP31 President and Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Murat Kurum presented the COP31 Action Agenda to the international community. Sharing her assessment of the meeting on social media, Esin Güral Argat said: “As part of New York Climate Week, the first stop on our COP31 programme was the United Nations Headquarters.”

“A comprehensive framework for transformation, from energy to industry”

Emphasising that the announced agenda identifies concrete areas for translating climate targets into action, Esin Güral Argat said: “The most significant aspect of the announced agenda is that it identifies concrete areas through which climate targets can be translated into implementation. Targets such as increasing electricity’s share of final energy consumption to 35 per cent and the circular material use rate to 15 per cent by 2035 set out a comprehensive framework for transformation, extending from energy systems to industry and from production processes to resource efficiency. The Climate Implementation Bridge – BRIDGE, which aims to connect national climate plans with investment-ready projects, is also one of the prominent initiatives addressing the financing dimension of this transformation.”

Highlighting the importance of coordination between the public sector and the business community throughout the COP31 process, Esin Güral Argat said: “The COP31 Presidency process, led by our Minister Murat Kurum, together with the business community initiatives spearheaded by our Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) President and COP31 Business Forum Chairman Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, is establishing a strong foundation for cooperation and implementation between the public and private sectors on the path towards Antalya. The presentation of Türkiye’s COP31 roadmap to the world at the United Nations Headquarters marked an important starting point in this process.”

Esin Güral Argat met with Minister Murat Kurum and exchanged views, noting that the programme in the United States would continue with meetings involving the business community. She said: “At the meetings we will hold in New York over the coming days, we will discuss how this agenda can be implemented from the perspective of the business community and, in particular, how SMEs can participate more effectively in the transformation.”
